Introducing Our New Administrative Director, Nina Casterline!

Sept 2021

Dear Montessori Children’s School Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new Director of Montessori Children’s School and to join this extraordinary school community. I hope that this letter finds you enjoying the rejuvenating days of summer and that you and your child or children are looking forward to beginning a wonderful school year together.  I can assure you that I share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a world-class learning environment as a Montessori.

I arrived at Montessori Children’s School as a seasoned teacher, but in addition to my role as an educator, I am first and foremost a mother, wife, daughter and sister. With our five children ranging in ages 8-21 years old, we have always been right on the front line of education of a parent and professional. I look forward to introducing my family to the many wonderful people that call Montessori “their school” very soon.

This school year will mark my 15th year in education. Since graduating from Ashland University with several licenses and degrees, I have served communities in three surrounding districts in which I had the opportunity to experience and grow in different roles. I have had the privilege to teach the following: Special Education as an Intervention Specialist servicing grades K-12th. I was also the director/ lead educator in a Cross Categorical Special needs classroom servicing multiple disabilities; Reading Intervention Specialist servicing grades k-4th; General Education servicing 2nd grade; most recently Gifted and Talented servicing students who are identified as gifted in grades 2nd-8th. Furthermore, I have led fundraisers of 300+ parents and students, created and implemented transitional plans for students entering college to lead in raising money for local charities.

This position as the Director of Montessori Children’s School provides me the chance to work collaboratively with teachers on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to young students learning and growing in the classroom. I firmly believe that every child can excel and that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students to use their powers to shape their future and the future of our community and our nation. I am sincerely looking forward to fostering a love of learning in your child!

My conversations with staff and families over the last few weeks have brought me privileged insights into the core beliefs and values that underlie the Montessori School. One of my passions has always been working to meet the needs of all students.  With my goal of continuing the tradition of excellence here at Montessori Children’s School, I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members.

Our first Meet and Greet opportunity will take place on August 25th (see flyer attached) Our meet and greet or “open house” will allow for small groups of parents and students to come into the classroom, meet the teacher, and pick up their child’s folder which will include all the important forms and information they need for the school year. They will also have the chance to leave with a cold treat from Kona Ice Truck. We encourage everyone to follow the recommendations of the CDC and we will continue to work closely with the local health department. As of June 2nd our policy has not changed on the decision to wear a mask which will be made by individual families. We strive to support our parents and the choice they make. While we know this can change, we will continue to update our staff and families based on the CDC and local health department. If you are uncomfortable coming or not feeling well please know that you can get your folder or packet on the first day of school. This is not required but is optional as an opportunity to meet staff and see the classroom. *Masks will be recommended but no one will be required to wear face covering under safety protocols. Protocols are subject to change. Many policies that were put into place last year to limit the spread of covid will be kept. Three feet will be maintained when possible, frequent cleaning will remain and designated isolation space will be kept in each building for anyone exhibiting symptoms.

In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students' experience, health and safety the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2021-2022 school year.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Nina M. Casterline
