Ms. Mary ellen – cUrriculum director
Ms. Mary Ellen Carras brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for education to her role as Curriculum Director at Montessori Children’s School. With over 20 years in education, she is dedicated to creating a learning environment where children flourish academically, socially, and creatively.
Ms. Mary Ellen’s journey to Montessori was built on a foundation of diverse teaching and leadership experiences. She holds a master’s degree in English Literature and a gifted education license (K–12), and she’s taught everything from middle school to college-level courses. Her roles in curriculum development and teacher mentorship have honed her skills in creating meaningful, child-centered educational experiences.
What draws Ms. Mary Ellen to Montessori is its balance of structure and freedom. “Montessori celebrates the joy of learning,” she says. “It’s about guiding children to discover the world on their own terms.” She appreciates how the Montessori method nurtures independence while fostering creativity and curiosity.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Mary Ellen is an East Coast native who loves spending summers by the ocean in her home state of Rhode Island. She’s passionate about the arts, enjoys skiing, and cherishes time with her four grown children and five grandchildren.
With her vision, expertise, and warm presence, Ms. Mary Ellen is excited to support the students and teachers at MCS as they continue to grow and thrive.
